The generous support of donors advances the University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine's threefold mission: teaching, healing, and research. Alumni participation is an important vote of confidence and a barometer of an institution’s vitality. Alumni support ensures that the School remains one of the leading teaching, research, and clinical veterinary institutions in the world.

Gifts to the School may be designated to:

  • Veterinary Student Scholarship Fund--Gifts support the training of future veterinarians and are an investment in the future of the veterinary medicine profession.

Ways of Giving

  • Opportunity Scholarship Program--Established in 1998, the Program is designed to foster scholarship support and mentoring opportunities for students. Since the program's inception, 80 Opportunity Scholarships have been awarded. The first-year students who receive these four-year scholarships of $2,500 per annum, for a total of $10,000, are matched up for their mentoring experience with their donor(s) or a faculty member. Recipients are selected based on their strong academic qualifications and financial need.

Opportunity Scholarships provide the donor the satisfaction of honoring a friend, relative or a family name, while at the same time investing in the future of the veterinary medicine profession by supporting the training of a future veterinarian. For more information,
please contact Dori Myers at (215) 746-7438 or at dmyers@vet.upenn.edu.

  • Dean's Discretionary Fund--Gifts are used by the dean in areas that will best provide for the needs of the School.
  • Pet Memorial Program--Established in 1982, the Pet Memorial Program has grown from a handful of veterinarians to a large group of practitioners across the country who make gifts in memory of clients' pets. The funds raised enhance teaching and service, which enables the Ryan Veterinary Hospital at Penn to provide the best veterinary care for its companion animal patients and remain at the forefront of veterinary education.
